This post is my honest opinion using fabric I received free of charge from Style Maker Fabrics.

Hello, everyone!

Today kicks off the Style Maker Fabrics Fall Style Tour, and I’m pleased to share the first post.

Fall is truly my favorite season and after a hot and humid summer in Northern Virginia, crisp fall temperatures feel practically indulgent. I was born for sweater weather!

However, my favorite color is pink, which does tend to evoke thoughts of spring and summer and doesn’t often make its way into autumnal color palettes. So I decided that with my fall fabrics from Style Maker Fabrics, I’d create an outfit dedicated to transitioning pink summer wear to my favorite fall.

First, I started with a Luna Tank (a free pattern from Helen’s Closet!) made with a cotton modal jersey knit. This color, Flamingo, is sold out but there are almost 20 gorgeous colors still in the shop. This fabric was a great pick for the Luna, with sufficient drape and opacity. It has a lovely swing shape that’s super comfortable and breezy in warmer temps. For more versatility, I made the longer version of the tank so that I’d have the option to tuck it into pants later.

For the rest of the outfit I settled on an analogous color scheme and focused on fabrics in the purple and red-purple families. Burgundy is classic fall and is quite trendy paired with pink these days, and I rounded out my palette with a deep royal purple as a nod to that moody, spooky season that’s also approaching.

More relaxed, elastic waist pants have been popular for the last couple years and that train ain’t stoppin’ anytime soon. This bottom weight tencel twill (also in a range of colors) is a perfect match for stylish woven pants like the Clyde Pants from Elizabeth Suzann. I love the robust weight of this fabric—I know that these pants aren’t going to wear out in a few wears like they might (and most likely will) when made of lighter weight drapey wovens. It would also work beautifully for a relaxed dress, a woven duster, or other light jacket. Tencel twills are so versatile and an excellent closet workhorse.

Finally, I layered my Luna Tank with another Helen’s Closet fave, the Blackwood Cardigan, made with a super soft and cozy purple teddy knit. Teddy cardigans are also gaining some traction this year and they’re actually pretty fun to sew—and quick too! Since it can’t really be ironed I breezed through sewing this piece! This cardigan is more toasty than I expected so it works really well with the tank top, balancing each other out. A word to the wise, double check your stretch percentage for your teddy knit because you may want to size up from your normal cardigan size. If I were to do it again I would go up one or two sizes, just to have a more oversized, cuddly cardigan. Even so, I really like this purple layer and it certainly adds some visual interest.

Bringing together summer pink with fall hues with an analogous outfit was super fun and really helped me exercise some new-to-me color pairings as we head in to glorious fall. I can’t wait to see what my fellow makers created for the Fall Style Tour too! Make sure to check out everyone’s posts on Instagram over the next week:
