Lisa Loungewear Set with Spoonflower

Lisa Loungewear Set with Spoonflower

Dusting off the cobwebs of the ol’ blog today to show you my latest Spoonflower Ambassador project: a vibrantly fruity lounge set!

With so much time spent at home, many have shifted their daily wardrobe to more comfortable and casual clothing. Loungewear is king! Matching sets have been particularly popular for the last year or so, and I think they’ll be sticking around for a while.

I’ve made a handful of joggers and crew neck sweaters in basic knits over the last few months, but was itching to mix it up with a new style and lots of color. As I began my search for a design on Spoonflower, I first checked out the Spring 2021 Trend Report for some new ideas. The Spoonflower Trend Report is a relatively new installment on the blog thats chock full of hot search words, upcoming design trends, and color predictions. It’s super interesting! And a great tool for picking out designs, motifs, and colors for upcoming projects.

Fruits are always popular, and this season we’re seeing an uptick in….papayas and pomegranates! This is a super fun trend because there are so many ways to translate the fruits into surface designs. A quick search of each word produces abstract brush strokes and collages, scattered polkadots of pomegranate arils and papaya seeds, folk art botanicals, and mod prints of orange and fuchsia. Two fruits, endless interpretations! I collected a handful of my favorite papaya and pomegranate designs to get you started, as well as my final papaya pick by katya_sever. I especially love all of the pinks and oranges!

For my lounge set pattern, I chose the Lisa Loungewear Bundle by Style Sew Me. The pattern comes with options for a traditional jogger and crew neck sweatshirt, a comfy hoodie romper, and my choice for this project, an off the shoulder batwing top with wide leg pants. This set absolutely shines in knits with lots of drape (like the Modern Spandex Jersey), but for easy cutting and sewing, I paired my set with Spoonflower’s Cotton Spandex Jersey. Its a more stable knit with great stretch recovery, and is a nice medium weight so its not too thin or too thick, making it a flexible choice for a variety of garments.

Cotton Spandex Jersey can also be used to make intimates and lingerie! Check out my blog post about the best Spoonflower fabrics for lingerie for more details on sewing lingerie with cotton spandex, plus pattern recommendations for your own custom casual intimates and loungewear.

Wearing this much all over print is new territory for me but I gotta say, I am feelin’ it! On cold grey days, its such a mood booster to put on this colorful set, and its nice to feel comfy cozy and put together at the same time.

I’m excited to see more papayas and pomegranates popping up as spring and summer approach in the northern hemisphere! Are these fruits your jam (wink wink)? Let me know in the comments what you’d make with these trendy fruits, and tag your makes with #spoonflower, #spoonflowerapparel and #megmadesewing on Instagram so we can check out your playful papaya and pomegranate projects!

Have a great week!
